Hartlepool Borough Council has made two promotions within its planning team as work progresses on preparing its local plan.

Senior planner Matthew King has become planning policy team leader, while Helen Williams moves from planning officer to senior planning officer.

The pair will both work on the new strategic document which is a replacement for a version withdrawn last year by councillors.

King has been at Hartlepool for 14 years, joining straight from university. He gained a 2:1 bachelors degree in town and country planning from Newcastle University, which he then converted into a masters.

During this time, he spent a year working for the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit which worked on preparing the North West regional plan.

He gained chartered status in 2002.

Williams has been at the council for six years and previously worked in planning roles at councils in Stockton and Middlesborough.
