Council civic officesDoncaster Metropolitan Borough council is hoping to expand its policy team to help it deal with ambitious growth and infrastructure plans for the region.

Policy manager Jeremy Johnson told Planning: “We have very big growth plans for the area in terms of the economy, a skilled workforce and transport.

“Projects coming forward through the 'Northern Powerhouse' include a pan-northern route linking the north west to the east of the country.

“The Highways Agency is looking to improve the A1 while High Speed Two and the East Coast Main Line are also having an impact. Yet we also have to protect the countryside and historic environments.

“On top of all this we are putting together our local plan and are looking to submit it to the government early next year.”

Doncaster is looking to recruit two principal planning officers to take its policy team from seven to nine planners.

“Doncaster has one of the fastest growing economies in the north of England and this makes it a very exciting time in planning", Johnson said.
