A Warwickshire council has continued its expansion with a new appointment after already doubling in size to help it tackle rising numbers of planning applications.

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has recruited Erin Weatherstone from Sevenoaks District Council to be an assistant planner.

Assistant planners' team leader Helen Watson told Planning: “We are working hard to support the economy while protecting the high value of our natural and built heritage.

“The planning applications team has achieved high performance levels and wishes to maintain this position. We are dealing with an increasing number of householder applications.”

Planning manager Liz Nicholson told Planning: “We don't have a five-year supply of land for housing and the core strategy is happening as we speak.

“We have a huge number of residential schemes coming on stream as a result and the team has doubled in size in the last couple of years because workloads have exploded.

“The downturn didn't affect the number of applications coming through but we had nothing like this and have had to employ more staff to deal with the applications and inquiries.”
