Jason WhitfieldTown planning consultancy England & Lyle is set to open a Newcastle office to strengthen its presence in the North East as developer confidence increases.

The firm, which was founded in 1995, has its head office in Darlington and has opened offices in Preston and Sheffield in recent years.

It said the Newcastle office would cater to increasing demand for the firm’s services in Tyneside, Wearside and in Northumberland.

The new office - at Rotterdam House on Quayside - will be headed up by England & Lyle’s current senior planner Jason Whitfield.

Whitfield said there was “a definite increase in confidence” in the development industry across the North East that was resulting in significant new investment from major players.

“Whilst the most noticeable gains in activity from our existing clients are in the residential sector, confidence is also returning in commercial sectors too,” he said.

England & Lyle said its current North East work includes a development of 140 new market and affordable homes as part of a wider mixed-use scheme on vacant industrial land in Sunderland, and urban extensions in Washington, Morpeth and Ponteland.
