West Oxfordshire District Council appoints head of planning and strategic housing

Giles HughesGiles Hughes has been appointed as head of planning and strategic housing at West Oxfordshire District Council.

Hughes' key responsibilities include development management, planning policy, building control, conservation, economic development and strategic housing.

He moves from East Cambridgeshire District Council where he held the role of head of planning and sustainable development.

He has 27 years of experience, including working in local government in New Zealand for nine years.

Hughes said: “West Oxfordshire is a lovely district. Our greatest challenge will be to manage the intense growth pressures whilst preserving everything that is great about the area.”
