Hertford town centreA planning restructure has led a county council to seek to expand its team in infrastructure and transport.

Hertfordshire County Council head of spatial planning and economy Jon Tiley told Planning: "We have just restructured: our strategic rail policy team recently became part of spatial planning.

"We are dealing with several issues across the county such as Crossrail 2, rail improvements and rail franchises. Spatial planning also deals with minerals and waste.”

Crossrail 2 will serve stations throughout the South East, linking south west and north east London, as well as destinations in to Surrey and Hertfordshire.

The county council is looking to recruit a principal planning officer to expand its transport and infrastructure planning team which currently numbers five planners.

Tiley said the planning department had to grow to meet the challenges the county faced as the economy picked up and the population expanded.
