Brian LloydOne of the UK's leading charities on protecting the countryside is ramping up its conservation focus to deal with emerging local plans.

Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Kent senior planner Brian Lloyd (pictured) told Planning: “We are seeking to increase capacity.

“Local plans are progressing through local authority structures with some speed and we are finding it more challenging to keep up.

“Through the local plan process we feel we have the most influence, in terms of future development requirements, to secure our objectives.

“We want to be able to assess and challenge if necessary the level of development and its locations. We would rather see brownfield instead of green field development.”

CPRE Kent is looking to recruit a planner and senior planner to help it protect, promote and enhance the county's countryside.

Lloyd said: “We want to see the impact of development reduced through landscape provision and the focusing on issues such as tranquility and dark skies at night.”
