Burgeoning demand for housing and regeneration in the Thames Gateway area has prompted a local authority to expand its planning team.

Swale Borough Council, marking the eastern part of the gateway, has recruited Paul Gregory from Thurrock Council to be a planner.

Development manager Andrew Jeffers told Planning: “A major thrust for planning right now is housing. We are working on an emerging local plan and this is in an exciting period of change.

“We have plans for major growth in an attractive and diverse part of Kent. But this brings its challenges as well as opportunities for planning.”

Jeffers said Swale started to share planning administration with Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells councils this June and this had also increased workloads.
