The impact of measures in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) twinned with growing demand has prompted a consultancy to strengthen its focus on residential, retail and leisure sectors.

Malcolm Scott Consultants managing director Malcolm Scott told Planning: “People have become much more aware of the potential for housing.

“This is because of what the NPPF has indicated regarding housing where local authorities don't have a five-year supply of land, which has led to more interest from speculative developers.

“Demand is coming from house builders, private developers, even individuals downsizing to build another house on their land.”

The firm is looking to expand by recruiting a town planner to deal with clients, planning officers and local authorities.
