JarmanAn upsurge of activity on local plans has prompted a property consultancy to focus more heavily on residential development.

Hobbs Parker Property Consultants LLP planning director David Jarman (pictured) told Planning: “Two things are pushing growth in residential work; one is that developers are much more active.

“The other is that local authorities are finally catching up with local plans and there is more activity. Plans that were in the doldrums are finally progressing and significant growth is a real possibility.”

Hobbs Parker Property Consultants in Ashford, Kent, is seeking to expand with the appointment of two new positions, a senior planning consultant post and one for an assistant planning consultant.

Jarman said: “We also specialise in business and education sectors and the rural sector. Recent projects include a 500,000sq ft commercial project in Maidstone and a Premier Inn in Canterbury.

“We deal with landowners and farmers and permitted development issues on turning agriculture buildings into homes is another big issue. The planning system is getting more complex.”
