Planning consultancy RPS Group has appointed a new operational director for its midlands and south east planning teams.

Faraz Baber, a dual qualified chartered surveyor and town planner, will aim to grow the firm’s planning and environmental practice, according to the group.

He was previously a director at planning consultancy Terence O'Rourke, where he spent five years.

Baber is a visiting professor at University College London’s Bartlett School of Planning, and he sits on the planning committee of the British Property Federation, which represents property owners, developers, funders, agents and advisers.

He has also served for five years as an executive director for not-for-profit business advocacy group London First, and for two years as the world city programme director at the cross-party local authority body London Councils, working with London borough leaders and the mayor of London.
