A steady pick up in retail work has prompted property consultancy CBRE to create a new planning post to help tackle rising workloads.

Alex Shaw joins as an assistant planner in the company's national planning team.

He joins directly from University of Manchester where he completed a masters degree in town and country planning.

“There are quite a few retail projects coming through the system,” he told Planning. “This is probably in line with the improving economy.

“People are more confidant they will get a return on their land and are more eager to develop sites, which is where we come in.”
