Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is looking to expand its planning team with the recruitment of a senior planning officer to tackle increasing numbers of major applications as well as windfarm projects in west Yorkshire.

Development team leader Beatrice Haigh told Planning: “We are very busy and the new post holder will deal with the more complex, major planning applications.

“We seem to have a rolling throughput of major developments, from housing schemes to commercial and industrial projects. We also deal with a lot of windfarms.

“The area's topography and wind speeds make it an attractive part of the country for turbines. Also, Calderdale is not classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty or a national park.

“Developers tend to rule out more sensitive landscapes and concentrate on those places without statutory designations.”

Haigh said as well as handling complex applications, the new recruit would mentor and help develop less experienced team members.
