Law firm Burness Paull has expanded its planning team with the appointment of a new partner at its Edinburgh office.

Craig Whelton joins the team from Burges Salmon in Bristol, where he was a senior associate.

The firm said Whelton brought considerable expertise with energy projects, particularly in the wind, biomass and marine sectors.

Elaine Farquharson-Black, head of the firm’s planning division, said Whelton was also an expert in development and regeneration work and compulsory purchase law.

“Having seen an increase in work from both existing and new clients across Scotland, we have been looking to expand our team in the Central Belt,” she said.

“Craig's development, regeneration and renewable energy expertise is an ideal fit for our growing practice."
