Property consultancy Bidwells has appointed Simon Elliott as principal planner.

Elliott specialises in environmental assessments and will be responsible for helping to deliver a range of environmental planning services to clients across a number of sectors, Bidwells said in a statement.

The statement added that the firm is strengthening its planning team in response to an increasing workload and to meet the growing need for specialist expertise in relation to forthcoming changes to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) directive.

Elliott joins Bidwells from Bedford Borough Council, where he worked in community intelligence for one year. Before that he was an associate environmental planner at property firm Savills.

James Alflatt, Associate at Bidwells said: “Changes to the EIA Directive will bring increased obligations for developers and planning authorities with the result that the EIA process may be more complex, costly and increase the risk of legal challenge.

“We are urging developers to ensure projects adhere to new EIA requirements now with the appointment of competent EIA experts such as ourselves to avoid problems at a later date.

“To be one step ahead in having the specialist resources to deliver these services, we are delighted to enhance our expertise with the appointment of Simon who has extensive experience in co-ordinating and producing Environmental Statements for complex development projects across the UK”.
