Hertsmere Borough Council has announced the appointment of a new senior planner.

Sarah Barker has taken up the post, which also includes deputy team leader duties.

The role will involve dealing with a range of policy work following the council’s adoption of its core strategy in 2013.

Barker joins from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, where she served as senior planning officer for eight years.

Hertsmere is about to submit an area action plan for a regeneration corridor in Borehamwood and is looking to press on with a range of other key policy documents, it said.

Barker will be responsible for delivery of a number of projects as well as deputising for the policy and transport manager and mentoring/supervising other members of the team.

Prior to working at Welwyn Hatfield, she worked as a planner at Luton Borough Council for two and a half years.

She gained a masters  degree in town planning from The Bartlett, University College London’s school of the built environment, following a bachelors in geography from Aberystwyth University.
