Planning Officer (Business Systems) - Development Management
We have a unique opportunity for a planner with advanced IT skills to help run our development management systems, whilst also holding a manageable caseload of applications.
Development Management in Sheffield has well-developed workflow systems in a modern office environment, which has helped us deliver efficiency savings and customer service improvements, whilst continuing to deliver high quality planning decisions and processes.
The Planning Service is located in modern, city centre offices. We are proud of the quality of our planning service and are currently shortlisted for two RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence in 2017, one of which is for our Stuck Sites enforcement programme in Development Management. Major development activity is high and planning will be at the heart of future housing and employment growth. This is an interesting opportunity to help us to continue to improve our efficiency, performance and customer service by working closely with a friendly management team and colleagues in a forward thinking service.
The post has two roles, the proportions of which may vary to meet your personal development and our service needs. We are looking for a qualified planning officer with at least three years development management experience who has an interest and ability to administer and improve the IT applications and business processes that support development management. This is a particular skills mix, so we are prepared to consider applicants who can demonstrate the ability to carry out these duties, even if they do not meet all the person specification requirements. Training and support will be provided to develop in the role. Once the successful candidate is settled into the business systems role, they will be given a caseload of planning applications. The caseload will be carefully managed to keep it reasonable and provide planning interest.
IDOX/Uniform is our application system, but you will also require the ability to use Structured Query Language (SQL) and C Sharp (C#) programming language for interrogating databases and maintaining and development workflow processes. You will be an expert Microsoft Office user, including Access and Excel in particular. You will need to be a strong team player with empathy for system users and the ability to provide training.
