Further information

Located at the heart of the National Forest, with a wealth of historic buildings and pleasant countryside, South Derbyshire is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Our planning policies will need to balance the need for new homes and employment with protection of those qualities that make the area such a desirable place to live and work.

The successful candidate will initially take forward our Part 1 Local Plan to publication stage and beyond in a way that that engages local people, developers, service providers and neighbouring councils. Co-operating across boundaries with our partners will feature heavily as we plan for major new urban extensions to neighbouring Derby. The post holder will also need to lead work on a Part 2 ‘sites and boundaries’ Plan, SPDs, development briefs and other special projects.

We are looking for a flexible and creative manager with excellent communication skills who can manage a small but very enthusiastic team of planning policy, design and conservation and heritage officers. A commitment to continuous improvement of service delivery and maximising resources through partnership working will be essential. You will be a MRTPI qualified town planner with significant post qualification experience of policy formulation and implementation.

Closing date: 19th March 2013. Interviews: 28th March 2013.

An equal opportunities employer.
