Planning and Building Control Division

Spatial Planning Service

Plan Making Team

Full Time, 36 hours per week

Croydon is placed to be a major strategic force for growth and transformation in London and the South East. The Council has a vision to deliver significant growth and town centre renewal over the next 20 years, as conveyed in the Council’s submitted Core Strategy, supporting masterplans and the Croydon Opportunity Area Planning Framework.

This post offers a unique and exciting opportunity to work within the Spatial Planning Service, which brings together the disciplines of plan making, place making and sustainability to provide a coordinated approach to the planning and delivery of appropriate and sustainable development over the next 20 years.

You will work within the Plan Making Team of the Spatial Planning Service. In the role you will contribute to the formulation of the Council’s Local Plan, particularly the development of the Local Plan: Detailed Policies and Proposals. Supporting the Local Plan will primarily involve the assembly of evidence, drafting of policy and conducting consultation.

You will also be involved in the development of location specific masterplans, provide planning policy input to the Council’s pre planning application service, support the Council’s Planning Obligations, Community Infrastructure Levy and infrastructure planning regime, and inform the Council’s approach to neighbourhood planning.

You will demonstrate a solid understanding of the English and London planning system, with a particularly sound grasp of planning policy and related legislation. In addition to the person specification, the successful candidate will also be motivated, innovative and able to prioritise a varied and challenging work programme.
