East Hampshire District Council - Temporary Principal Planning Officer - Petersfield, Hampshire - Up to £36,376 p.a.

East Hampshire District extends to 200sq miles of which 57% is within the South Downs National Park. The population of the District is approximately 110,000 which include the market towns of Alton and Petersfield and other settlements of Whitehill/Bordon, Horndean and Liphook. The Service acts as an agent for SDNP Development Management work. The Planning Development section has two teams which together handle some 1700 planning applications and 100 appeals.
About the rolea and suitable candidate:
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is a qualified Town Planner to work in a senior capacity in our development control team. The main duties will be to handle a wide range of planning applications and appeals, attendance at hearings and inquiries and reporting to Committee. An essential part of the role is to provide advice and assistance to the public and professional agents, within strict deadlines and standards. The duties of the post will involve evening working associated with Council Committees, and deputising for Planning Manager.
You should have a minimum of 4 years development control experience which is essential to cope with the workload demands and knowledge and experience of Urban Design principles would be very useful. Good interpersonal and casework administration skills are essential. You will need to be computer literate and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Prior consideration will be given to those who are risk of redundancy at East Hampshire District Council and Havant Borough Council.
