According to the firm, Houghton (pictured) has 26 years’ experience “in a wide range of planning disciplines in both the public and private sectors and has secured planning permissions for numerous retail, commercial, office, industrial, mixed use, residential and renewables developments”.

He set up his own planning practice, Houghton Planning, in 2012, WYG said, and before this, he was the office director of Turley Associates and then Alliance Planning in Glasgow.

WYG planning director Simon Chadwick said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul at a time when our Scottish workload continues to grow. Paul will maintain and enhance our planning services in Edinburgh with particular regard to the retail and residential sectors.”
