Warrington Borough Council is looking to expand its development management and planning policy teams to support housing growth and promote economic development.

Planning policy and programmes manager Michael Bell told Planning: “Warrington’s economy is one of the strongest in the north.

“Housebuilding rates remained high throughout the economic downturn while Omega, a £1bn, 233-hectare mixed-use development, is one of the largest development sites in the north west.

“Warrington’s urban regeneration partnership Warrington & Co is also progressing a number of town centre regeneration schemes including the £107m Bridge Street redevelopment (pictured).”

The council is looking to recruit several new posts including a senior planning officer to expand a development management team which currently comprises 10 planners.

“As a result of Warrington’s strong economic performance, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of planning applications submitted,” explained Bell.

“The planning policy team meanwhile is also looking to expand the team as it gears itself up to undertake a review of our local plan. The policy team currently stands at five planners", he added.
