RiversideStafford Borough Council is looking to expand its planning team to tackle rising development pressures.

Development manager John Holmes told Planning: “There’s a lot going on in Stafford in terms of large retail schemes nearing completion, extensive housing developments and employment parks.”

He said the planning department wanted to recruit another planner to a development management team which currently includes around eight chartered town planners to “bring a bit more stability”.

Holmes said that one of the biggest regeneration projects the council has worked on recently was the mixed-use leisure and retail Riverside scheme (pictured).

But Holmes said his team was also having to balance the big projects with dealing with house extensions and single dwellings.

The council wants to take on a development lead to target small-scale applications and play a key role in the management team.
