Stefano Smith has been appointed director of planning in the Glasgow office of consultancy Peter Brett Associates.

Smith joins the firm following three years as technical director of planning and the environment at engineering firm Amec Foster Wheeler.

His new role will involve consolidating the firm’s planning capabilities as it expands into transport and buildings sectors.

PMA director Nick Skelton said that Smith’s expertise would help it deal with new work resulting from the Scottish Government’s plans to streamline development planning and focus on energy efficiency measures.

At AFW, Smith worked in infrastructure projects including renewables, transmission and oil and gas developments.

He is also junior vice-convenor of the Royal Town Planning Institute in Scotland and an external practitioner lecturer at Heriot-Watt University’s School of the Built Environment.

Previous roles include spells for consultancies Halcrow, RPS Group, Spawforths and Barton Willmore.

Smith has a bachelor’s degree in town planning from Heriot-Watt University and a postgraduate diploma in urban design from the University of Westminster.
