David Ramsay has been appointed to head up the planning team in the Southampton office of property consultancy JLL.

Ramsay joins the firm from his previous role as associate and head of planning for the Solent region for planning adviser Vail Williams, where he had worked for five years.

His new role will involve working with colleagues in the JLL development team to drive growth across both divisions.

Describing the challenges he will face in his new role, Ramsay said: “The office market is improving, with increased enquiry levels, although it is clear that the introduction of permitted development rights allowing office-to-residential conversion until May 2016 and the lack of new build or speculative development have continued to reduce the supply of Grade A supply along the Solent corridor over the past couple of years.

“As a result, there is a lack of high quality office space and the remaining lower quality buildings are being converted to residential as landowners consider the cost of refurbishment to be too high.”

Prior to joining Vail Williams, Ramsay worked at a number of planning consultancies including White Young Green and Adams Hendry consulting.

He has a master’s degree in town and country planning from the University of Manchester.
