Alister HumeA planning consultancy in the south east is redoubling its focus on community projects and residential schemes.

Hume Planning Consultancy, based in Sandwich, east Kent, is expanding to tackle a flurry of work across public and private sectors, according to principal Alister Hume (pictured).

He told Planning: "There's an increasing focus on residential and mixed-use projects but we also work closely with parish councils to develop community mixed-use proposals.

"These include houses and a GP surgery, perhaps, or a village hall. Housing projects range from anything from one to 500 units.

"The planning system has experienced significant change in recent years and on occasion this can result in a decision-making structure that focuses excessively on processing applications.

"However, there is strong need to focus on creative placemaking and the wider benefits. These include economic, sustainable and well designed developments."

Hume Planning Consultancy is looking to recruit a new senior development planner to work on strategic projects and complex planning applications.
