Canary WharfLondon Borough of Tower Hamlets is appointing a new major projects officer, funded by developer Canary Wharf Group.

The developer is funding a new post within the council’s planning team through a planning performance agreement relating to a number of projects in the Isle of Dogs area.

The new position is one of a number being filled by Tower Hamlets within the planning team, with a number of roles replacing departed staff or to cover maternity leave.

Paul Buckenham, development manager at the council, told Planning: “We have a particular requirement for experienced planners to help us manage growth in certain parts of the borough, including Poplar Riverside and the Isle of Dogs.

"Those areas are the current focus of significant housing and jobs growth and we need expertise to deal with large, complex sites.”

The authority is looking to recruit planners at all levels of the career grade in development management and has other opportunities to assist with the preparation of the new local plan, transport planning and place-making.

The east London borough has the highest target in the capital for new homes and jobs, and hosts 58 conservation areas as well as the Tower of London world heritage site.
