Burnley Market HallLocal authority planners are sizing up potential for growth following an upswing in investment for commercial and industrial initiatives.

Burnley Borough Council had enjoyed £800m of investment in infrastructure, retail, leisure and education in recent years, principal planner Graeme Thorpe told Planning.

“In terms of development this is something of a boom town with a lot of industrial and commercial investment going on and we are processing several major schemes," he said.

“Burnley has lots in place to make the most of our prospects, including skills, connectivity and access to knowledge, together with sites including Burnley Bridge Business Park and Vision Park.

“Results are impressive and set to improve, so we are looking at releasing new land for business and housing growth for the next 20 years.”

The council is looking to recruit a senior planner to manage complex applications and manage a small team of staff.
