Orkney Islands Council has recruited a planning manager from Australia.

Fiona Mullen's planning caseload includes housing developments, a large new hospital proposal and wind turbines.

She told Planning: “I am dealing with a number of applications for fish farms and wind turbines. It's been a great move for me."

Head of planning and regulatory services Roddy Mackay said recent years had seen increasing numbers of applications for wind turbines.

“Orkney is starting the process of identifying strategic areas for these developments, but there are issues of capacity within the network,” he said.
