An Scottish local authority has promoted a planner to boost its focus on renewable energy and sustainable economic growth.

Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park made Stuart Mearns head of rural development and planning. He was a forward planning manager for the authority.

Mearns, who last week won praise from the Scottish government for helping to pen the park’s supplementary planning guidance (SPG) for renewable energy, told Planning: “Renewable energy represents a significant opportunity for the park’s rural economy.”

The SPG was commended in the development plans category at the Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning.
