Jean Marshall has taken up the post of head of planning across West Dorset District and Weymouth and Portland Borough Councils.

Marshall’s role will cover development management, building control, land charges and administration across the joint planning team, which is shortly to incorporate North Dorset District Council.

Marshall told Planning: "As well as managing this integration, my biggest task is to transform the service into a seamless operation. At the moment, although we are a single team sitting in the same office, we have different operating systems, ways of preparing reports and even templates for letters – we also need a single computer system to work from."

She joins from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, where she served as planning policy manager for the past two and half years.

She replaces John Greenslade, the interim head of planning across the two councils.

Marshall previously worked as community infrastructure levy coordinator and spatial planning team leader at South Somerset District Council.

She also had a spell in the private sector, working for planning and property consultancies Foot Anstey and M Baker Property Services.

She gained a postgraduate diploma in town and country planning from the University of Westminster in 1986.
