Planners at a London council are ramping up efforts to tackle a large increase in housing need across the borough.

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea planning department is having to expand to beef up its housing and employment policies.

The local authority is looking to recruit a senior planning policy officer as part of its expansion plans.

Planning policy team leader Rob Krzyszowski told Planning: "There's a real focus on housing growth. In light of recent chnages to the London Plan we are altering our housing target.

"The target has increased to 730 dwellings per year and we need to make sure our housing policies are up to date to support that growth.

"Kensington and Chelsea is full of listed buildings and conservation areas, but that’s only half the story. The rest is ambitious regeneration plans that include that increasing rate of housing delivery."
