HousingA rise in planning workloads is seeing Havant Borough Council take steps to expand its planning policy team.

Planning policy team leader David Hayward told Planning: "This is a small team and we are extremely busy right now.

"We have high housing needs and are just starting work on our local plan. We are due to publish a big report on how to meet our housing need in June, and this cascades down to the policy team.

"We have a mix or rural and urban areas, are pro business and open for growth and development, which all impacts on workloads."

The council wants to recruit a principal planning policy officer to add to a team that currently numbers five planners.

“The local plan is one of the most important functions of the borough council and the postholder will play a key part in its development,” said Hayward.
