Strong demand for housing development has led a consultancy to strengthen its focus on housing needs beyond urban zones and into rural areas.

The Green Planning Studio, based in Shropshire, which works for private and commercial clients in England and Wales, is planning to focus more on sites beyond the fringes of towns and cities.

Director Ruth Reed told Planning: “What's driving the planning agenda is without doubt housing: there simply isn't enough housing land.

“Councils are reluctant to create an oversupply of land because of local resistance to development.

"We are looking at sites beyond the development boundaries where the Councils have not met their land supply targets.

"Many local authorities don't have a five-year land supply and there are lots of appeals.”

Green Planning Studio is looking to recruit a planning technician to support the delivery of its expanding portfolio of land-use, housing and mixed-use development.

Reed said: “The new postholder will research planning policy and history for new sites.

"They will tackle planning applications as well as landscape and historic environment appraisals. They will also prepare land-use planning applications.”
