Castleford Growth PlanLocal authority planners are focusing their efforts on a project to revitalise a northern town and create around 3,000 homes.

Wakefield Council, which unveiled its Castleford Growth Delivery Plan (pictured) earlier this year, aims to revitalise the town by creating 2,000 jobs and building new houses.

Services manager for development management Judy Jones told Planning: “We are looking to build economic growth and create housing to bring forward regeneration within the growth area."

Council leaders hope to have completed the project by 2020 before focussing on developing the waterfront area near the River Aire.

The council is looking to expand by recruiting a new planning officer to take a lead role to determine major planning applications and implementing regeneration projects with specific reference to the aims and objectives of the Castleford Growth Delivery Plan.

"The postholder will take a lead role to help the council and its partners determine major planning applications and implement urban regeneration projects to create sustainable places," said Jones.
