Economic development consultancy SQW is planning to take on more private sector work following the appointment of a new director.

Helen Dias, who joined from Savills where she was an associate director for planning and regeneration, told Planning: “SQW wants to expand the amount of work it does with private-sector clients, many of whom work with Local Economic Partnerships (LEPs).

“SQW's raison d'etre is delivering economic growth and a lot of funding is going through the local growth fund into LEPs.

“I was brought in because of my knowledge of delivery and understanding of viability and feasibility issues and my hands-on knowledge of how to make things happen through the planning system.”

Dias recently completed a secondment to the Department for Communities and Local Government to advise on the community infrastructure levy.
