Growing development activity has prompted Canterbury City Council to expand its planning department.

Planning policy manager Karen Britton told Planning: “There is growing developer interest in the area thanks to the growing economy, meanwhile we have a few big masterplanning projects such as a sizeable scheme for Canterbury Christ Church University. We need to expand to deal with the increasing workloads.”

The council is looking to expand its development management team with four extra planning staff to meet growing volumes of planning applications.

Britton said: “Due to a high volume of applications we are seeking to appoint two principal planning officers.

“They will manage a caseload of large and complex planning applications, pre-application enquiries and appeals. We are also seeking two further planning officers. These are all additional posts.”
