BRE has promoted Helen Pineo from BREEAM communities manager to a new role at the research organisation of associate director for the Future Cities programme.

The programme is funded by the BRE Trust and more than 70 public and private partners with a pot of around £35m to look at issues such as infrastructure, population and climate change.

Pineo told Planning: “Planning will play a major of my work because we are looking at individual buildings being resilient to impacts of climate change as well as where new development will go.”

“We need to do this in a way that's sustainable and there's a huge role for planning. I’ll be managing the research programme and developing new business opportunities for BRE and our partners.”
