Gostrey in Waverley A Surrey planning team team is looking to boost its planning enforcement team to tackle rising development pressures.

Waverley Borough Council planning enforcement team leader Victoria Choularton told Planning: “We are facing the same pressures as everyone else in the south east.

“There is enormous pressure to build housing, but Waverley has a lot of green-belt land and countryside.

"We have to protect that countryside, as people are always trying to push boundaries because of the pressure to build.

“Waverley is also within commuting distance to London, close to coastal areas like Portsmouth and has good access to airports. It is a very desirable place to live.”

The council is seeking to recruit two planning enforcement officers to investigate breaches of control under planning, listed building, tree preservation order legislation and compliance with planning permissions and conditions.

Choularton said: “This is a wonderful job for people, like me, who like unpredictability. You see the whole gamut of development control, from dealing with enforcement of listed buildings to farms.”
