A London borough is expanding its enforcement team to tackle issues arising from industrial areas and waste facilities.

The London Borough of Sutton said it wants to expand its planning enforcement section from three to four chartered town planners.

Principal enforcement officer Fiona Lander told Planning: “We have a lot of large industrial areas and many waste-related industries.

“We need to expand to help us work more effectively with other agencies such as the Highways Agency, Environment Agency and environmental health.

“Viridor recently won planning permission for an energy-from-waste facility (pictured) and other issues include areas such as sewage.”

The council is looking to recruit a senior planning enforcement officer.

The postholder will undertake enforcement investigations and prepare written reports and recommendations.
